Company History
2002 – Mecca Industries Limited incorporated. Operating out of the basement of the family’s Penal home, industrial and safety products were purchased locally and resold to Offshore Rigs operating in Trinidad’s waters.
2003 – The operation expanded and Mecca received its first two 20ft container loads of imported environmental products.
2004 – A small industrial safety garment factory started with five machines, to supplement the PPE needs of Mecca’s growing client base. The company’s exclusive Firefly brand of safety garments was created. Mecca purchased its first foreign used vehicle. Total operational area of basement (office, warehouse and factory) was 1600 sq. feet and housed five employees. A tight squeeze.
2006 – The company’s growth was being restricted by the size of family basement. Mecca Industries committed to its first mortgage and purchased a house in La Romain, San Fernando. The use of this building was mixed residential and commercial. The Company continued to increase factory plant and equipment, staff count as well as locally purchased and stocked inventory. The Penal basement served as the warehouse. The need for new operational space was realized within the same year of moving to La Romain
2008 – Mecca embarked on an expansion project of its property at La Romain, San Fernando. The back yard was enclosed and outfitted to house its garment factory and additional warehouse space for more efficient logistics. Office space was expanded on the lower level of building. Total operational area was now 5500 sq. feet. The Company owned a fleet of five vehicles and staffed fifteen employees.
2012 – Mecca purchased a large house in Friendship Village, San Fernando. Extensive renovations were carried out and the building converted to commercial use. The garment factory was relocated and expanded to occupy exclusively, all two levels of this building. Total operational space was 5500 sq. feet and consisted of twenty-seven employees. The La Romain building was completely retrofitted to include a modern showroom, increased number of offices and work stations as well as updated warehousing facilities. Total operational space was 5500 sq. feet. Vehicle fleet stood at ten and employee count was eleven. Penal basement continued to serve the company’s greater warehousing needs.
2016 – Mecca acquired adjacent property to its main building in La Romain. Extensive renovations were undertaken and the house was converted for full commercial use. This building currently serves the needs of the company’s administrative and finance arms. The Company’s new flagship building of 13000 sq. feet of usable space is being constructed on these newly acquired lands adjacent to Mecca’s main building and when completed will be modern and aesthetically pleasing. Mecca’s main building now serves as a showroom and warehouse with few offices. Total operational area at La Romain stands at 8000 sq. feet. Vehicle fleet comprises fifteen and employees’ number fifteen. The Company launched its exclusive line of Bodyguard safety and industrial items through partnerships with Asian factories. The garment factory building at Friendship Village is being expanded once more to meet the needs of the Company’s client base, finishing at 13000 sq. feet of production space.
2017 – Mecca employs its first General Manager. The company re-engineered all of its processes and optimized all aspects of its operations. The company is focused on partnering with global factories as well as developing robust distributorship networks for the world’s best brands of safety supplies and industrial equipment. The Bodyguard line continues to be expanded through an aggressive research and development program and has found a home on almost every shelf of end user companies in the energy and construction sectors. Mecca embarked upon and completed construction of a 15000 sq. feet warehousing complex at Penal, adjacent to the family’s home where it all started.
2018 – The company employs its first Finance Manager and has put mechanisms in place whereby the continuity of its operations is assured no matter the circumstance. Mecca is focused on diversification of its revenue streams as well as expansion of its current core operations.
2019 – The Company takes it clients and its operations into the digital age. Harnessing technology for optimal company performance as well as creating a world class customer service experience is the name of the game. Staff as well as clients are excited to experience the new energies of the nearly completed flagship building later this year. The talk of the town. Mecca is focused on increasing its local market share as well as penetrating regional markets as the company becomes a global entity.
